Recent edit created for the Samsung Mobile campaign OverToYou. They have given a number of people their new handsets to put to the test.
I was given the Galaxy S4 Zoom, a 16 mega pixel sensor with 10x optical zoom. It’s funny looking ‘phone’ but the results speak for themselves. Overall very nice.

I wanted to create a video that showed the capabilities of the camera, so I set out to shoot as many interesting shots along our travel up through Croatia. I mainly took advantage of the 10x zoom, which was actually really impressive. It was cool to shoot that kind of quality footage straight on a mobile device.
It also records at 60fps at 720p, so I captured a couple of shots at that, which gives a nice effect.
I downloaded the Lapse It Pro app which allowed me to capture some nice time-lapse stuff.
I also gave the macro feature a good test and of course captured some ants at work 😉
The original intention of the video was to capture aerial footage using the quad copter. But with the tight turn around and me only taking a backpack to Croatia, meat I wasn’t able to capture a whole lot of useable footage with the heli. There are a few shots in this edit towards the end when we used the heli at Outlook festival. Below you can see the make-shift mount I quickly put together before leaving. Although this worked, the device was a little too heavy and vibration was a real issue in the footage.
So when I got back from the trip, I was given the S4 Mini, a smaller lighter device. That second edit is coming soon, and has a very different feel to this video… stay tuned.
Overall I’m actually really impressed with the quality of this device. The footage it churned out was decent, and having that big screen to view what you were shooting was a real plus. I think its a good idea combining both a good quality camera and mobile device into one, as many people currently carry two separate devices.
